What Is An Ankle & Foot Ultrasound Scan?
An Ankle & Foot Ultrasound targets soft tissue structures in the lower leg and foot, assessing:
- Achilles tendon tear, tendinopathy, or bursitis
- Plantar fascia thickening and plantar fasciitis
- Ankle ligaments (ATFL, CFL) post-sprain
- Morton’s neuroma or intermetatarsal bursitis
- Tibialis posterior and peroneal tendon pathology
Ankle and heel pain can severely impair mobility. Ultrasound imaging offers high spatial resolution to evaluate delicate tendons, ligaments, nerves, and plantar fascia tissues in real time.
Whether you suffered an acute ankle sprain during exercise or have chronic morning heel pain, this scan identifies the exact source of inflammation or tissue tearing without requiring X-ray radiation.
An Ankle & Foot Scan delivers precise sub-millimeter measurements of Achilles tendon health and plantar fascia inflammation to guide targeted recovery.
Symptoms Requiring An Ankle & Foot Scan

FAQ
Yes! Ultrasound precisely measures plantar fascia thickness (normally under 4mm) and detects hypoechoic swelling or tears at the calcaneal insertion.
If pain or injury affects only one foot/ankle, a Unilateral scan (£90) is sufficient. If you experience symptoms in both feet or wish to compare against your normal side, select a Bilateral scan (£160).
Ultrasound is primarily designed for soft tissues like tendons, fascia, and ligaments. While periosteal thickening can sometimes be seen, MRI or X-ray remains best for bone fractures.
